Hey PFIC, haven't posted in a great while, not planning to take up posting reports again, but ran across a rare little guy the other day and thought I'd share a couple pics.

I had read about the rare red Cabezon, and have caught hundreds of gray, brown & blue-ish ones but never a red. Released and hoping he fertilizes many eggs out there.

Looks a lot like a Red Irish Lord. Dorsal fin is uneven. Cirrus is not pronounced. Snout looks more like a RIL than a cabezon. Pretty fish.

I could be wrong. Only suggesting an alternative. Interesting tidbit: 90% of red cabezon are males.

Props on the release.

Okay, from my online research:
I'll go with red cabezon (because there is a clear picture of the lower lip and does not look the same as Irish lord.)
Also I believe >90% less than 90% or red cabezons are male.

Milton Love ❤️ in the house?
Or Clayman?
Or KJ?
SS?

Red Irish Lord has a mottled red pattern, Red Cab does not, I've already got an email off to Dr Love the day I caught it, when he gets back in he'll confirm it.

I've caught several that were reddish colored although I've seen them in a variety of colors—nearly black, gray, greenish-yellow, brown, blue and reddish. Yours is unusual in that it doesn't have spots.

Here's a small one from the Coast Guard Pier in Monterey.

Here's a picture of my red Cabby. Caught in Carmel bay 4-5 years ago. We call them devil cabs down here.
