I know that lots of people have different favorite lures (bucktails, SP Minnows, poppers, Mickeys), but I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations for an all-around rod that could handle all of these. I'm looking for a lighter spinning rod that can help cover a lot of ground. Thanks for any advice!

A rod that can throw 1/2 - 2oz will probably cover a ton of different lure and jig options for stripers and others.

I personally have a Cabela's 10' "Tourney Trail" steelhead rod LINK paired with a 4000 size reel and it gives me a lot of versatility.

Hey rmariano,

I use a 10 foot Shimano convergence paired up with a 4000 size reel. Pretty similar to what sea_forager is using. I did a quick video on my setup here:

All the links to my gear are in the video description. Hope this helps!

I like Daiwa DXS, 8.5' MHXS (Medium-heavy extra-fast action) - reasonably-priced rod. Pretty light with enough backbone to pull in stripers.

Salty.

I'd bite the bullet and get a bait caster if you haven't already. Such a prestigious and sporting way of fishing haha. A real treat indeed

Thanks for the advice guys. I ended up pulling the trigger on the Daiwa DXS 8.5 MHXS. 1/2 - 1-1/2 oz covers a lot of lures that I might consider throwing on a given day. Any more than that, I probably wouldn't be out anyway.
