Anyone else entered in this tournament?

My wife and I are participating for the first time this weekend. I'll be out tomorrow scouting locations. Win or lose, it's going to be fun.

Kevin:

Let me know NEXT year, and I'll be interested! Minnow from this board won that thing (1st-place) in the past 2x (one as a junior and one as an adult).
I am going to try to make it to Mel's Paradise Pier this year.
Plus, you need go pre-register for the SCC in advance to be an official participant, and in the past, he cut-off was as least a week prior to the date.

Red, my wife and I signed up the day SCC registration opened up. All ~300 spots filled up very fast. Easily a month prior to the event.

Wish I could go to Mels event as well but too much going on this weekend. There's also a SlabZone tournament this Sunday around Point Richmond that I'm attending.

We didn't place but we did have fun.
Left the house around 5am and started heading down hwy1 past San Francisco. Pretty much fished from 6am-12pm. Stopped at any beach that look good along the way to Santa Cruz.
Most of the surf north of the Lighthouse was horrible. Gusty winds, dirty water, and big waves. Once we past the lighthouse and made a few bends, the water cleaned up and wind was pretty light. The sun really warmed things up around 10am.
Lots of fishermen everywhere today. Saw some really big hubcaps caught today. I only managed one keeper and a few palm-sized perch. My wife had nibbles all day but only landed a small one.

Got to the weigh-in around 12:30pm. Long line and lots of fish in buckets. My Calico perch came in at 1lb 6oz and 13.25". Not even close to the top 10 guys. 1st place winner was a 2lb 14oz Barred. Grandmaster winner was a 3lb 2oz Barred Surf Perch.

Tournament included a t-shirt and BBQ.

Was a very fun tournament. My wife and I will likely do it again next year.

Kevin

Great Calico! And the Grandmaster was a 3lb+ BSP?! That's a monster! Did they catch that on lures or bait?

Nice video from a local YT fisherman on their SC Classic 2017 experience:

Some nice BSP fishing as well as a shot of the gathering at the end. Looked like a lot of fun!

Thanks for the great report! This year was the 1st time I didn't compete in a decade, due to other family obligations. But I'll be back next year!
