I am considering purchasing a 7' L/ML Nomad (a boat type rod) for up to 30lb line for pier fishing. I have some lighter rods for surf perch and such, but wanted something heavier for sharks, rays, etc. Has anyone used one of these on the pier before and if so, how was it? I need a travel type rod and my options are really limited. And additional suggestions appreciated!

One other rod I am considering is a St Croix Tidemaster 7'6" heavy (12-25 lb,3/4-2 oz). Would this be heavy enough? I'm thinking it would be more versatile where I could use it for casting in Florida for tarpon.
