|Yea, those "protected" species are a pain, years past you'd haul'em up and have-to throw'em back- floaters! I've seen more than just a few cowcod go that way. Now-a-days all the boats I've been fishing on have some sort of "desender" to release the protected fish at depth, greatly improving their chance of survival, I'm not quite sure but I believe that theres a regulation that the sportfishing boat must have a devise to do that on board. A few years back I was on a certain party boat fishing in Monterey bay, the ocean was rough so we were fishing a reef just past the south end mile marker Bouy, the silver salmon were all over the place, we hooked several and (ofcourse) they all went back, if we wern't hooking a silver we were hooking a Canary "also protected". It got so bad that I went to the Capt. and asked him to move the boat, not a good idea in that case so consaquently I don't and won't fish with that outfit again! and no I won't mention their name, don't want to ruin it for the rest of you...mutt.
Tight lines to all, and to all a good FIGHT!!!
