I'm looking for a good surf/pier spinning rod thats around 8 1/2 feet long. It needs to be medium light or medium action. And need the be sensitive enough to feel bites from small perch but strong enough to handle small shovel noses and leopard sharks. Price range is up to $100. Thanks

I have two rods that would cover your relatively large spectrum rod specs. The Ugly Stik Lite 8.5' steelhead rod is pretty much indestructible and light enough to handle the perch bite with enough backbone to handle the larger species. The other rod I own and recommend, is the Lamiglass 8.5' steelhead rod, medium fast. This is a lighter rod than the Ugly Stik, better for perching but still plenty tough and strong. Both should be around or under $100.
