Here is a link to YouTube of the fishing for bonito during the recent GTG at Catalina.

https://youtu.be/aDmqYmdwwic

It is best to look at the cast-a-bubble in the distance to see the bonito boil and the hit. 0:35

Next you will hear the drag being pulled.

Hope you like it.

Very nice, I hope we get these bigger models on the land side. My lady and I love these fish, very underrated as far as eating quality goes.

Nice fish - love the sound of a fish pulling drag! I like your extension net.

Lol! I saw that. I thought you were going to pull up the fish with it.

BTW, how do you prepare the bonito? It's a pretty oily fish, isn't it?

Thanks everyone.

The bonito is regarded as a good eating fish in Istanbul, and other cities.

Rita took some (lot) for her mom.

I use them as lobster bait, but next time I am going to prepare some. I just have to bleed it as soon as I catch them.

The fishing line knocked my bucket down as I was moving to get the net. I had it tied, so no worries, except I did not want the fishing line and the rope get tangled.

My early rise to catch and video the catch paid off.

Do you have a link to where one could purchase a net like that?

Bonito is way less oily than say mackerel. A whole lot less fishy tasting too. Cooked, it reminds me of canned tuna, just fresher and sweeter. The trick is to bleed them asap, get them on ice and if not eaten right away, frozen. So far I've only had it raw (superb), and baked under the broiler with seasalt and dipped in japanese soy sauce... very tasty.

Good to know. I hope the upcoming El Nino brings some bonito up this way! Or at least up to Monterey.

Thanks and good to hear from you.

It has been a long time since I fished the Hermosa pier.

Is it open yet?

Thanks.

I had tried recording before on other days, but no bite.

I even did some during the derby, but every time it was recording, fish did not "act".

Glad I got a good shot at it. I keep watching it and love the boil, hit and the drag noise.

P.S. Check your PM shortly.
