Anyone ever take crab from berkeley pier? Just wonder if it is worth it to get one of those round ring nets while I am going for Hali's this weekend... Any advice on crabs is huge!

I took some crab home from berekeley peir before but they are really hard and very sharp. Just use chovies or squid and they will keep coming.

I think they are rock crabs (red shells)?

The only crab I would wanna take home is dungeness, but I heard you cant take them home from that pier?

that would be true. no dungeness allowed to be taken inside the bay. you would be unlikely to find a dungeness at berkeley anyways.

i have heard that the red crabs are actually very good, (never tried one) sweeter meat than dungies.

Berkeley Pier is not all that great for crabs. You would be better off trying to catch crabs in the SF area such as Ft Baker.... I seen crabs caught at BP but for reds.. it seems slow...

They actually have some pretty good size red crabs off berkeley... But the shell is just to hard in my opinion...

Get a crabnet anyway. You're gonna need it to get your halibut up to the pier!

There are some huge red crabs at BP, especially near the end. They taste good. I brought home 4 Monday night, all good quality. I usually put a whole mack in the bait cage and it will last all day.
