I have been catching a lot of small fish with my cast net that I have not been able to identify. The fish range from a half inch to an inch. The fish has a hard shell body and instead of having dorsal, pelvic and anal fins, the fish has two needle-like spines on top and on its sides.

I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of fish this is. Could the fish be an invasive species of some sort?

that sounds interesting. are they more susceptible to toxins?

Sticklebacks can tolerate brackish water. I just never heard of any living in the bay. That's pretty cool you caught some because a lot of stickleback populations aren't doing that well.

I used to catch sticklebacks when I was a kid in Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park. Just used a dip net and sat still and they used to swim right in.

Maybe the recent tides could have pulled some down out of the delta? Here's a clear pic & info on them.

Hehe, everyone has been telling me that.

The fish that I bring up look really weird. The only fin I can spot on the fish is the caudal fin, otherwise, it's just those four spines, two on top and two on its sides.

I am not sure. We also used another minnow that I don't recall. I would guess they both were.
