In regard to the issue of illegal drugs: Moderators will automatically delete any picture showcasing or glorifying the use of illegal drugs. If the picture causes controversy, or if the moderators feel the picture has been contrived in such a way as to cause controversy, then it will be removed. In such cases the moderators are empowered to delete those pictures felt inappropriate.

I concur. What about removing gratuitous alcohol bravado?

What kind of example are we setting for the next generation of fisherpeople?

I'd also like to see any posts/pictures containing the glorification of Tobacco use removed.

Posting this for the sake of discussion. And I know I'm gonna start a fire (no pun intended actually), so flame away if you must.

Yall, what if said picture was 100% legal, medical, and state of California approved? While not all of us agree with this, it was voted in through the democratic process. And while many may not like it, thats life in california.

If we are going to make this a more family friendly forum, I suggest removing pictures involving tobacco & alcohol. Both are legal too - and both are also classified as drugs. Alcohol was once illegal for a period of time.

My two cents. I could speak more, but I feel like this post will be deleted regardless.

One must realize, just because a law is passed by the voters of a state doesn't make that law valid if it conflicts with federal law. In this case the state law does violate federal law. It is what it is. One must change the federal law to use pot legally.
Any of those pot places selling the stuff can be shut down at anytime.

I think you avoided the meaty part of his question.

Are we representing federal law or are we trying to brighten the image of fisherman everywhere and keep the kids off booze/tobacco/pot?

I think it sets a bad precedent to glorify tobacco smokers and drinkers while at the same time vilifying people following doctors orders.

Food for thought

To be completely honest, I wish prohibition would come back and tobacco was illegal also. So there you go if you thought I was avoiding anything. So now you know where I stand on the subject. I am consistent in my beliefs.

What the Guidelines (Top of Pier and Surf Page) say:

4. In regard to the issue of alcohol and/or tobacco: Moderators will automatically delete any picture showing (known) minors smoking or drinking alcohol. At the same time we realize that these are legal items for adults and used by many PFIC members. As such, we have no intention of deleting pictures that inconsequentially display such use of these items. However, if a subject is showcasing or glorifying the use of alcohol (i.e., the bottle is used as a prop), if the picture causes controversy, or if the moderators feel the picture has been contrived in such a way as to cause controversy, then it will be removed. In such cases the moderators are empowered to delete those pictures felt inappropriate.

Thanks for the prompt reply. What I was more concerned about was the image we present as fisherman vs. what is legal/illegal or healthy/unhealthy.

As adults we all have our own opinions. As adults we are responsible for the images we present.

Alcohol/tobacco/pot aren't going away, so let's figure out a way to inspire the next generation of steward's without the hypocrisy.

Thanks for clarifying your stance Ken.

I feel it could be worded in a way that's more beneficial to the majority, but that is just my opinion.

I don't quite understand the point you are trying to get across with last line about inspiring the next generation of stewards. Please specify, I am interested.

As an adult Fisherman I feel responsible to educating the upcoming generations about making moral, wise and healthy decisions.

How you treat fish, yourself and your neighbor all play into this equation.

If you still can't grasp this, shoot me a p.m. and we'll stop cluttering the board.

Kids don't need this kind of stuff in a family friendly fishing forum.

True but this raises a whole different issue. What is considered a "drug". Just for example, say a certain PFIC member casually uses perscription pain killers or drinks codeine cough syrup for recreation. Is that acceptable?

NO IT IS NOT..........
