Fished the aquaduct from 0500 - 1400 hours for a chaser and 19" linesider, both enticed by a small x rap. The fish got hooked really well but I was able to get the hook out. Next time, I'm going barbless. Overall it was a perfect day on Monday, lots of wind on 5 but virtually none at the duct with very warm temperatures into the afternoon. My friend caught and released eight schoolies off various x raps. They're there but nothing of good size has showed up yet. Tight lines guys!

I always skunk at the Duct... may have to try tossing x-raps or flashminnows next time.

I haven't caught any stripes in the aquaduct yet but we kill the catfish by palmdale. My girlfriends grandparents live there and fish daily, he kills the stripers on bucktail jigs and 1oz chrome and blue rattletraps. We have been waiting for the gates to open a little since the stripes like the current.

Just out of curiousity, with all the salmon fry that we read about getting sucked into the pumps has anyone caught any in the aqueduct?

Palmdale the city?

I don't recall there us a palmdale near Tracy.

I know there are some catfish near Tracy. Bullhead cats and they are tasty.

palmdale is in LA county no where near tracy. you can catch a little of everything in there we have channel cats and yellow cats and striper and even largemouth bass. and the catfish is real good fried up louisiana style with some hush puppies.

They are small, just smolts when they get sucked in.

Then they become food for striper.

Curious too, anyone ever hear of a sturgeon fron the duct? I know San Luis Res. has them.

If aqueduct fishing is dependent upon when the water gates are opened to
cause water movement and not tides, how do you know when that will happen,
is there a set schedule or do you just wait and watch? Never tried it before, I've seen guys doing it in the Los Banos area but didn't stay around long enough to
see if anything was caught. I would probably try the Northern Cal. area if I did
fish the aqueduct.

I'm not sure how to find out if the gates are open we just go check or wait for the word from the grandparents. You can tell when they are running because the water level drops and the sides will be covered with algae and snails etc. Be careful btw if you fall in it could easily become fatal. I will say though there is A LOT of BIG fish in there. Target areas where they have laid new concrete on a section and cast towards the edge of the patch. There will be a slight elevation difference from the new patch and the old concrete like 3 inches and I found the fish lay there and ambush passing food. There's even cars people sink in there and the fish go to any structure they can find.
