No goodies this time around but other's should be posting pic's in the next few day's.

The trip really started to day before (fri) when Burger asked if I was fishing. After playing email tag trip was set for the Redondo Break wall.

I got the Kings landing around alittle before 6am after a stop at a 7/11 for bait I went to wait for Burger at the Key box by the sea wall. Mahi would be joining us but not for sometime.

We made our way to about the midde of the bay by the frist mooring. Not much action...few hits but no joy. Later as more fishermen showed up we notice Poke Polers....And there were doing well with Cab's, Greens, Browns, Bass and so on.

Now you must understand...I'm a short out of shape man....So when Burger moved down the Jetty it would take him about 5min...it would take me 20min.

He burned me out at the bend where the sea lions were. I had to strip to just to cool off. About the same time Mahi started coming our way and he had the same issue I think.

We moved down into harbor...fishing was better. Mahi was using a "Device"...I'll let him talk about it. Fishing picked up....I got a few rock fish...sculpin.

Now for the most funnyest thing I had ver seen.......Burger was trying he luck with a buck tail jig...He called me over. There was about Two maybe more small halibut's following his jig "stalking" it.

We all tryed our luck for halibut, good area. Just no luck.

We moved down and setup and move and move but could'nt find the fish.

There was alot of sardines at Redondo. That might have something to with it.

Haha, I am not exactly a specimen of physical fitness myself, but the long legs certainly help. I'll post up some pics tomorrow at work. Those little flatfish were funny as heck. Thanks for posting the report. Till the next time.

After catching some small fish, the threaded brass nipple came out, so I tried lure fishing for halibut.

I used buzz bomb and different color swim baits. No takers.

It was a good exercise to navigate the rocks. The heat did not helped the situation.

Some close-ups.

I used squid, dead ghost shrimp, perch pieces, mackerel pieces and a small hair raiser for a while. From past experience there Shrimp seems to work the best. Live ghost shrimp would be my first choice, then market shrimp second (I had neither on this trip, which is likely why I skunked it up). Not sure about the fish trap question since I do not know what one is...

Swimbaits work really well on the jetties down there; however, when you fish them from the rocks you lose a lot. If you try them, use a weedless jig head. Warbait makes a lot of good saltwater colors. Toast (brown and orange) works really well, the same jig with a crawdad type trailer also does pretty well, just expect to lose a lot. If you want the grass bass in the rocks, use small brown and purple jigs. They seem to love those things. White spinnernbaits, the ones used for freshwater bass, also work really well for bass, and they are largely weedless.

I would hate to lose warbaits heads to the jetty. Those suckers are pricey.

DUDES!!!! That jetty looks like primo poke poling opportunities!!!! Seems to be plenty of seaweed for the vegetarians, plenty of cover and hidey-holes for the predators and the water is warm (or at least warmer than up here in Northern CA)so you don't really care if you get wet................Now. Must. Go. To. Southern. CA. Fishing. Military Surplus Stores.

Well that is what I did until due to my bad design, the brass pipe nipple at the tip of the pole became loose and the hook and nipple fell out. It could not be fixed at the field.

I have a new design in mind that should work better for the next time.

Do you guys fish the north or south jetty? Are both fishable, and is either better than the other? Do they charge for parking?

Thanks,

Salty.

I believe the South jetty (the smaller one) is closed for fishing (I have never personally tried to go out on it though), which sucks because I hear it used to be a great spot for fishing. For the North Jetty (the long one we fish) the parking is $10 or you can find street parking, but it adds quite a bit of distance to your walk.
