The IT folks where I work recommended this tool to help protect your computer against malicious scripts. You can find info at noscript.net.

What it does:
It keeps java, flash, and other plugin scripts from running when you access any web page until you approve them. You will be amazed at the stuff that web pages try to run on your pc. This tool allows you to see all of it, and you only approve those that you want to run.

I won't surf without it any longer. Highly recommended, and it's free.

Rob

Interesting, Rob, and thanks. Is it just as necessary if you are using a Mac?

I don't know about a mac. I was very surprised to see all the different scripts being run by various web pages. It's very cool to be able to deny "googleanalytics" because you know that one is just keeping track of you.

Ditto. Same here. I also use the Rickroll blocker, and youtube comment filter.

i've switched over to google chrome. I dont understand how people are still getting malware as it should be pretty obvious what it looks like especially suspicious links in emails which usually is the one that gets people (at least to my knowledge)
