I've been wrestling with my contributions. Fishing success often occurs with patterns: tide, lure, color, clarity, etc. Once a fish scouting trip produces results, the following day may also prove successful in the same place with the same techniques but a hour later. I've contributed to spot specific threads so I'm responsible in some degree for returning the following day to a fishing spot now engulfed with anglers. And that's my struggle. I want to let others know that the fish are around and the techniques that seem to work but I do not want to limit my chances to fish that spot the following day.
Any words of wisdom for this contemplative angler?

lol, not at ya, but hopefully, with ya.
One of my early posts here addressed the same topic, a little different but nearly the same question.
For example, I've got stripers. I want to share, but I don't want to blow a spot up. Another person here has got buts. I thought, silly me, we could share, that way she/he has stripers and I've got buts. Man, did I get an education from the responses.

I've shared over the last couple of years, but it took some time. How should this be said? Slowly, people here shared with me and I shared with them. If there's another way and ya figure it out, let me know.

To date, keoki, I believe, for the sake of the fish I love, a tight lip and careful consideration for whom I share, is the best answer. I'm not strictly a C&R person nor do I have a fridge stuffed with whole fish laying stuck together in a deep freeze. So, I tend to drift toward those who share a similar philosophy,,,NOT to say that I'm right and others are wrong about C&R vs. C&K, beyond examples at the extreme edges of the topic.

Lastly, and this is really my own personal take, learning to fish well is walking a thin line between having help and learning to help myself.

@kaneohe, appreciate the referral.

@slowriprun, excellent perspective. I agree with the reciprocation method just gotta be more selective with whom I share then do it via PM. Your personal take on learning to fish is what I've been thinking about lately. Thanks.

Thanks to all who replied on this topic via PM's.

For now until I find a better way, I'll refrain from specific spot references and stick to data such as tide, water conditions, gear and tackle, techniques, and other pertinent stuff that inspire or assist fellow anglers with the choice of whether to not to fish and/or techniques to use when they go fishing.

All we ask is the above info with a general location. Example:

Fished in San Francisco. Tide was low. Bait was squid. Used my shark setup. Cast out as far as I could. caught whatever.....

A prime example of a way to share a ton of info without giving away a specific spot is to look at the beautiful reports from Frozendog. (I know there are others, but his come to mind first). In those reports you will find all the info you need to fish the Morrow Bay/Central Coast area, all you have to do is get out and find some spots.

Another suggestion is to post your fishing venture acoupla days later, if you got some hot news or tip you want to share, PM the people you want to inform, another good reason to attend "our" get togeather's meet and greet stone cold hard core members (in person),,,, like me Lol,Lol,Lol,Lol,? I think its time for my meds,,,,,,,,,,...mutt.
