A good friend of mine, Paddio formerly known as freemanp in PFIC, is one of the resident local fishermen at Pebble beach & Still Water Cove Pier. Padio is a professional golfer and works for the Pebble beach links club. He just ran the AT&T tourney where Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson played over this weekend...

I have fished with paddio just about all the legal rocks in 17 miles rocks plus yakking with Sin Coast, itskeeper, dpshim and Mbay lauching out of the SWC. Lots of gigantic perch if that is your thing but most RF is small to medium from the shores as Mr. Ken Jones mentioned on his website.

Chris Da Marine and rockcrab62 dive the StillWater Cove all the time for bigger RF, Cabies & bigger lings in the deeper water, of course... Also, a very poplular spot to launch to yak for rockfishing...

As for the StillWater Cover pier, it has to be a high tide to get any action... A limited parking and there's $10 entrance fee to enter the compound. But it's a beautiful place and kids friendly for sure.

Man, I thought this particular pier was really tucked in, seclude and hidden from everyone besides the divers and kayakers... but it can't escape from you.

The skipper Jones is truly Da Godfather of Pier Fishing in California!

Thank you!

I have dove this area extensively and I got to say there are some quality rockfish to be found pretty close to the pier. There are some monster black, rubberlip and striped perch that hold on the rock edge near the sand. MFE, small lings, cabs, kelp and grass rockfish tend to be in shallow spots <10ft in the thick kelp to the right. I have also seen leopard sharks and an angel shark in the cove not far off the pier.

I would love to dive that area — and many others. Too old, too fat, too out of shape...

Yeah diving has definitely made me realize how inefficient fishing can be when the fish don't want to cooperate. I remember diving the Humboldt jetty last year and diving through schools of hundreds and hundreds of black rockfish, saw 4 legal lingcod some shorts, greenlings everywhere and a cab in an hour. Everyone fishing that day were catching 0-2 fish while I was there.

I don't think this pier exists any more.

Stop it, paddio... Smile Ken, Patrick is just playing... Smile

BTW, paddio owns the pier thus we have to pay $25 entrance fee to use the facility. $1000 for a lifetime membership, I think... Smile

Told you there's some gigantic perches down that way... You still need to yak out there to the deeper water for these over-sized perches tho... NOT from the shores...

Indeed. I like that area a lot because the whole cove is pretty much always divable, and it provides access to a varied and expansive area with lots of different terrain and fish species. You can pretty much find any Northern/Central california species in the cove itself, as well a few So-Cal species.

I must admit that I have never caught a ling like that from the pier.

Mmmm... maybe, you have in Point Arena Pier, NOT this pier for sure... besides that's just over-sized perch, right?

Point Arena is a different matter. If you fish it regularly you should manage some nice lings and cabs.
