Hi fellow Anglers, just moved to the wonderful city of Los Angeles for school, and been thinking about going fishing, Anyone mind teaching a complete newbie?? Looking to fish around the piers, beach, jetty, creeks, but probably not lakes, they seem to be a bit too pricey as a student here in so cal.

Any tips or comments appreciated, THANKS!

Maybe sometime next week we can meet at the Hermosa pier.

Right now Tuesday or better yet Friday is a possibility.

I will send a PM, when I know for sure.

Sounds great! any advice on where to park, what rigs we should be using, and what fish are around?

There are three (3) hour max. metered parking spaces and two parking lots close to the pier.

To the north of the pier is a multi-level parking structure. On the south side there is a ground parking lot. Pay at the machine for the space using the number on the ground.

As for the rigs, hi/lo or Carolina is fine. Bring bait rigs (Sabiki) for bait, and another rod to put out the bait. I will bring some frozen bait to begin with if there are no live baits around.

I have not fish there in a while, so I can’t say what is biting, but if nothing else we can have a crash course in pier fishing!

Just an FYI...old "piers" at the Marina Del Rey Break water have been replaced with new ones...

You are welcome to join me in Catalina.

If you like to fish the Cabrillo Mole and the Green Pleasure Pier in Catalina, I will be there Saturday the 23rd and 24th of March which is next week.

I plan to fish two days at the Mole and all night at the GPP.

Send me a PM if interested to discuss the details.

A report to follow the week after.
