Hey SoCal guys,

Our next pierfishing derby is Dec. 19th at Redondo Sportfishing Pier from 9AM to 1PM to benefit UPSAC's outreach and conservation efforts. Not only will you be helping a worthy organization, it'll be a chance to meet your fellow pier rats and to engage in some friendly competition. There's no food for the event so you'll have to bring your own lunch, but we'll have a raffle for some nice prizes. In addition, we'll be handing out 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies to the winners. So please reply and let us know if you'll make it!

Note: Due to the limited space on the pier, we're considering extending the fishing area to the rocks.

Place: Redondo Sportfishing Pier
Date/Time: Saturday, Dec. 19, 9AM to 1PM
Entry Fee: $10 (includes bait, while supplies last, and 1 raffle ticket; will also see if we can get some live bait from the bait barge)

Raffle Prizes: These guys believe in what UPSAC's all about and we appreciate their support.

- Subscriptions to Pacific Coast Sportfishing magazine
- voucher for 2 on a half-day or twilight boat out of Marina del Rey Sportfishing
- reel/rod combos from Wylie's Bait Shop
- lure/jig packs from Sunrize Tackle/Big Hammer
- ghost shrimp vouchers and $10 gift certificate from Paul's Bait and Tackle
- copy of PFIC from Pier Fishing in California/Ken Jones
- and more...

Thanks to Redondo Sportfishing for allowing us to have our derby at their pier. Our thanks to Paul's Bait and Tackle for providing bait for the derby, NOAA for providing goody bags (while supplies last), and AT&T Interactive for their financial support.

Rules

- Each paid participant will receive a score card.
- The fishing area is limited to the pier only.
- Two rods are allowed with (2) hooks max. on each rod.
- Any bait or lure is allowed.
- Upon catching a fish the judge will be summoned to mark the participant’s card. The card will be marked by the judge according to the chart below.
- All DFG regulations will be followed.
- If the fish meets DFG regulations and the angler wishes to keep it, it will be marked to ensure the fish won't be counted again.

!!!!!! I work the last saturday of every month also. Every odd month(Jan,March,May,July, etc) I work the last sunday. So the 1st or 2nd saturday of each month is no problem.

Eugene,
I tried to reply to your email at Board@UPSAC, but I am not sure it is going through.
Therefore, I am posting it here.

Please sign me on.

To fish from the rocks a fishing license is required. Depending on tide and
weather, the rocks could be dangerous.

We should only get vouchers from Paul's. We should encourage the
participants to buy bait/misc.rigs or otherwise other items from John, bait and tackle store on the pier.

He may give us boat trips for our raffle.

He will validate parking for all day. Thus the parking fee will be $2.00.

He may provide us live bait if available at the bait cage. Do not count on it.

I was there on the 28th. Fishing was dead-- not one bite or fish for anyone.

Are we going to spend $40.00 each time on trophies?

If the main reason for Derby is to raise funds for the UPSAC, then it only should be held with minimum 20 people signed up--of which 18 may show up. There is too much work for volunteers to have it for less than 20 people.

Hashem

Thanks Hashem, in the future you could always just send me a PM through the site or send it to my personal email address. I'll get back with you personally on these issues.

There is a great suggestion by Scooterfish on another thread--Fort Baker 12/5&6.…long.

I am proposing that after the Derby and raffle, we try to remove trash from the rocks on the South (left) side of the pier.

I will provide the trash bags as well as some long gaff type tools to reach in between the rocks.

Lets see how much we can collect. Participants can do it as long as or as short as they wish.

How about it?

If you plan to join me, wear shoes with good thread. Rocks could be slippery.
