|There is a sunken yacht at the bottom of Monterey Bay, just outside the harbor in 200 ft of water. A crew with a big barge crane have been out there attempting to recover the ship for about 2 weeks now. I saw on the news last night that the hull broke apart as they tried to bring it to the surface. There is over 1700 gallons of diesel on board that could potentially contaminate the Bay. That would suck!
The ship was being towed from San Diego to Oregon last year when it began sinking so they pulled it into Monterey Bay...smart. Oh well, not much they could've done at that point. But they should've known about potential problems with the hull prior to towing.
And its not the ship featured in a recent SF Chronicle article....thats a different story.
Just thought I'd let ya'll know what that huge thingy is out there in the middle of the Bay. I hope they find a way to contain the diesel before its too late!
Oh I'm sorry, I thought this was America?! hahaha
