went to a spot near pebble beach this past monday, and found a nice rocky dropoff to fish, only accessible on a very low tide. my friend had fished this spot a few days before, resulting in 2 legal cabezon, and 2 thick black and yellows. In an hour of fishing I got 2 nice ones, the bigger being 13.5" and so thick, I knew she was pregnant. but so gut hooked, she was bleeding out the gills as i landed her. no way to save her. crazy part is, she ate both my baits, squid on a hi/lo, and both baits were nearly in stomach. never felt her bite, she must of slurped up both baits and just sat there for a bit. grilled one whole and was amazing, other in the freezer for a meal soon. hadn't caught a black and yellow for a couple years, last time was in big sur...

Good Fishing! Those are big black and yellows from shore. Those are my wife's favorite rockfish (for dinner).

Nice catch. Is that Pebble Beach at Bean Hallow, or the one south of Santa Cruz?
