So sometime in May, I will be making a trip down to the So Cal area. My GF has never been to Medieval Times, so I am taking her for her bday.

I would like to get some fishing in and hopefully catch some of those more southern specials that never make it North and maybe even do some night shark fishing.

Will May still be too early in the season, or is there a pier or beach in that area that I should really look to hit.

Thanks for any help

Given where you are going to be at, I might suggest heading down to one of the following piers: the Huntington Beach Pier, Newport Pier or Balboa Pier (if you're there on a Tuesday morning you might meet Snookie). A little further but a very nice and usually productive pier would be the pier in San Clemente.

I have read through all of the Pier descriptions that you have and all have points that are intriguing.

I think I will have to pick one of the ones that has Ruby's Diner at the end so that I can keep the GF fed and happy lol.

Balboa, Huntington Beach and Oceanside would meet that criteria. Seal Beach and Malibu (briefly) used to have Ruby's but they are now history.

I am looking at going the week of May 21st. I am thinking that Balboa would be quieter than Huntington would be, fair assumption?

She's not much into the fishing aspect of the trip, but I am planning on setting her up with a hi lo rig and see if she can catch some perch or mackerel or something along those lines
