Anyone can confirm where they are right now, please ?

Herring made another appearance this weekend just in time to ring in the new year. Activity was first reported at Point Richmond at the end of last week. Herring spawn was confirmed in the area south of the harbor channel entrance (rock jetty) on Saturday and today. Spawning is all subtidal on eelgrass (Zostera marina). Numerous species of birds and marine mammals were feeding in the area between Brooks Island and the rock jetty. Staff will continue to monitor this spawn since there appears to be a large school along the South Hampton Shoal.

Should we always go at the high tide ? Low tide does not yield herring, right ?

You can see it in the photo, by line. There are small schools all around the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge that you can cast to at high tide,

Monday and Tuesday have high chances. Lots of rain and the neap tide. I am keeping all my gears in the car and ready to go.

For those who don't already know, CDFW has a blog about the herring: https://cdfwherring.wordpress.com/

It's probably not the best place to get up-to-the-minute info, but it's there.

Is the run done for the year? Tried to check out Paradise Beach yesterday night, but didnt really see much, and it sounds like that spawn started on Tuesday...

Where do people get the news? This is my second year trying to follow the run but it seems I'm always three days late... The CDFW blog isn't terribly helpful for the latest updates
