Yeah 67-50 is in the “average” range, under that is considered “weak”. Tides4fishing has a helpful table of the coefficients for the entire year on their site.

Thanks sea_forager. This will help with the planning when to go. Last time I went, the tide coefficient was 92, no wonder it's unfishable.

Yeah 92 is pretty high. I mean, if the swell is low then it's still possible to snare them but I'd personally limit my time to around both slack tides when the water movement takes a break. Other than that, on days where both swell and current aren't in your favor, I'd look at bodies of water that offer more protection. Since you can't keep dungies inside the Golden Gate that means Bolinas and Bodega. Maybe some spot or cove in the Marin Headlands but that seems like an awful lot of hiking down to shore when Bolinas and Bodega are easily accessible by car.

Word is the seasons closed in Washington and Oregon due to our dear friend demoic acid. The commies from those states are bleeding our waters dry. $8.99 a pound now. Same price as live lobster. I don’t like dungees that much.

Spent a few hours at ocean beach yesterday and caught a half dozen dungies all male and all short...AGAIN!
I'm about to give up for a few weeks on this futile endeavor. Time to go back to rockfish from shore I think.

I put in another 4 hours today at Baker with little luck. Good conditions, squid and old fish scraps as bait, SofaKing snares. I managed 1 small rock crab. Zero dungies.

I Switched to fish on a high-low rig and caught some fat jacksmelt for fun at least. All released.

Beautiful day....And chicken for dinner. Ha! Hoping it'll change soon.

Perched south ocean beach for two hours around the low on sat the 9th. Saw two shorts and hooked a third on the grub. Got two 12" bsp for lunch though, so no complaints.

Man I don't know what the deal is with people not having success out at OB. Not a critique in the slightest, just genuinely surprised since I come across plenty of keepers hanging around there. I'm still catching them by hand (but that's gonna stop soon since it's getting a lot colder) so that means what I'm coming across are in pretty close-- about 40ft out from the water line 1/2 way through an incoming?-- soooo maybe people are just casting too far? No idea. All I can say is that they are definitely present so keep trying! I'm going to be right there with the rest of you (snaring) in another few weeks or so.
