I was talking to a guy today about fishing at Berkeley pier and he told me that the pier is closed down. Can anyone shed any light on that for me. Iíve been away a while so this is news to me.

The pier is falling apart and the city ainít gunna spend a cent to repair it. Maybe the university should declare it a sanctuary. Put prayer rugs out

The guy that runs the bait shop told me a couple of months ago it would reopen in a year , don't see it happening ? My Dad recently passed away , I searched his 5 car garage and finally found his white saltwater Garcia he use to use in the early 60's at the BP . Cleaned and greased and headed to the BP for a last harrah , that was our favorite spot . Was very upset to find it closed , sure would like it to reopen ! Think the safety issue is bull , looked the same as it had in the 50 years I fished it . Hell I'd sign a waiver to get back out there .

Last time you could see the bay through the holes in the deck. The rebar was bloated with corrosion and seemed to blow up the concrete. Itís totally repairable but it seems weíre chopped liver

Some say it will be repaired but given the city's priorities and funding it seems doubtful.

I know Songslinger who has followed this issue closely has doubts and I respect his opinion.

Here is what I have so far. It's a long read with links, but it bascially says the pier is unlikely to reopen. Follow the money...

What I heard is Ď2018, the money will be on the table. 2020, the repairs will be complete.í
If itís (Berkeley Pier) not complete by then, then I will be ready to ďthrow in the towel!Ē
A lot of interesting things should be happening in 2020; I hope the pier reopening is one of them!
Iíll be ready to reclaim my spot ... Wink
