My initial thought was a black and yellow due to the yellowish color and pattern location extending dorsally, but then I noticed the shape, dorsal spines, eyes, and partial dark brown coloration towards the tail is similar to that of a quillback, and the splotched pinkish color resembles more to that of a gopher. Here's an article saying that certain rockfish can hybridize. Any thoughts?

Looks like a colored up gopher to me. Many species exhibit different colors depending on locations caught, food sources, depth, etc. Did not know they hybridized so that is a possibility.

Black and Yellows and Gophers are the same fish according to Dr Milton Love. My understanding is that the brown and pinkish ones are found in deeper water than the B&Y's. If that is indeed one of those, It looks like a nice fat one!

The first picture makes it look more like a gopher. But here's a picture, the same fish, side by side to a black and yellow, showing high similarities but not quite exact. Definitely a unique and interesting rockfish.

I've found blacks and yellows to show quite a variance in color depednding upon habitat and depth of water where caught.
