|I took two fishing/camping trips for several days in June. Weather was terrible, but the fishing was good. As you know, I am a very vanilla fisherman. I use a 11 ft conventional rig with 30lb test line and a single hook leader with 3-4oz sinkers. If a 4oz doesn’t hold bottom, it’s probably too rough to catch anything anyway. My only bait was fresh smelt and squid and I caught fish on both. If anyone has any ideas for keeping squid frozen longer when away from home, let me know.
I caught several nice 28inch lings and the rockfish were all 14 - 15 inches - good eating size. I only fished early in the morning because the wind got too strong or the water too rough. Though I was only out a couple of hours, I usually got a couple of fish.
6/13 a nice ling
6/15 another nice ling and a grassie
6/16 a couple nice grassies
6/27 and even more grassies
I did catch one big grassie, about 19”. Too nice of fish to keep so I released him and it was hard getting him back in the water without going in myself. But a wave finally came and took him out.
and the lone cab for the month.
6/28 One more ling
And the food: We ate a lot of fish last month. Here are just a couple of examples.
Summer is salad time, so a pan seared fish with a taco salad
and the old standby, a fish po’boy sandwich
"Mrs. Kittyfish, we'll just drive up to one more point, it's just a couple miles further, and look at the rocks. No more, I promise"
