|Since this seems like your first time fishing, don't get too caught up with the type of action rod you need to go with the type of action lure ect ect. Just get a cheap spinning rod/reel that you like and get out fishing. Once you start fishing, you will start to figure out the type of gear you need based on your fishing style. If I were you, I would spend that $120 on 1 nice set up vs 2. You don't need 2 set ups since you are just starting out. I wold go with a 7-8 ft rod, and get a reel that can handle at least 200 yards of 20# braided line. That will be more than enough to get you started fishing from the pier or the shore. Stay away from rocks, thats not heavy duty enough and that 20# test will break off like dental floss.
