|The Monofil series is one of my favorites and I REALLY like the 27. It is an excellent "no frills" reel for coastal surfperch when using weights over an .oz or so.
Pair it with a Salmon/Steelhead rod from 9-11' or so and you will REALLY have a nice setup. You have to make sure the reel seat will fit though. Many modern rods do not have reel seats that open open wide enough for the "foot" of the Penn reels.
If you like the Monofil series....Look into the Surfmaster series as well as the have removable side plates which allows for a quick change of spools "extra spools can still be found" and if you really go hard core, get a Squidder and mod it into a Squidder .Jr.
I love my Penn reels!
