|I'm looking for a new Halibut/Striper plugging spinning rod setup for SF bay area. Anyone have any experience with the Ugly Stick Elite Salmon/Steelhead rods?
I'm looking at the 8' 6'' MH, 1/2 - 1 1/2oz, 10-20lb test. Just want to make sure it's not too heavy. My current 11 foot surf rods are no bueno for tossing lures.
Any recommendation for a good reel that isn't too heavy?
Have not used their Salmon/Steelhead rods.. but i did use an 8' uglystick rod for a long time before i got my lamiglas MBS 86H.
The big differences to me.. the Lami is way lighter.. compared to the uglystick.. my uglystick is a tank (heavy).. Sure it can take a beating.. but so does your arm after casting it all day... the Lami also has an extra fast tip which makes it way more sensitive when feeling strikes and also helps you cast further. My uglystick is more like a noodle... I'll take an extra fast tip any day. my uglystick became my buddy rod. Proce wise.. the ugly stick i was using back then was a $60 to $70 rod... the lami cost me about $120.. and has been worth every penny.
Not sure if they still make or sell that Lami model tho for spinning reels.
I pair my Lami up with a Diawa Legalis 4000H and i love it! works great for striper/hali plugging from shore. can throw this rig all day long without beating myself up.
my 2 cents. Hope this helps
