Here's a short video I made for a local nonprofit about steelhead trout and the efforts being made to keep em in our waters. There is some cool underwater footage of these fish so give it a look if you're interested.
I occasionally heard locals tell stories about legendary sized steelhead being pulled out of the creek and bay decades ago, but it seems that this is a rarity nowadays. Good news is that the genetic makeup of the local wild steelhead is so robust that they seem primed to bounce back if they're given the chance to. Mainly, low water levels are interfering with their spawning and rearing.
Fisherman definitely seem to be taking point on a lot of conservation efforts since these trout are such a blast to catch.
