For light plugging (mostly grubbing) I use 10 lb fireline or 8 lb orig pline with a 7' rod that's good for 3/8oz to 1oz. Especially with the fireline, its light enough to respect the fight in a perch.
Other PFICers will have better suggestions, this is just stuff that has worked for me. |
and if you've ever fished next to kaleo, you know the stuffs work.
i'm in the ADD camp, where i continually read (and over-read) everything, so i'm continually swapping lures, varying retrieves, rod tip u/down, fan casting and moving. if it works, i'll stick with it until the compulsion ends.
also different conditions also lead to different retrievals. depending on what type of flat water i could pop harder or just let the wood sit. i also like to surf my topwaters too. like paddle/crank hard with the wave and then straight stop. i thinks its a result of seeing fish work the surf while i surfed.
i've also gone lighter than 3/8s so i have a very light set up. 1/8 to 1/4 set up for light cranks fun for perch, even better for halis.
