Just kiddin about the M-Bay crack! He's actually a very nice guy who is one heck of a fisherman! Which way are ya going to Monterey? Theres gotta be towns all along the way, mexican meat markets alot of times has the head-on shrimp too, or you can get it before you leave the house and ice it down, I forgot to mention frozen "birds eye" peas, there are a ton of "super size" Opaleye in the kelp stringers, only they won't bite any "normal" baits, find an area where the kelp is kinda close to the rocks, use a #4 or #6 hook and fill the hook with pea's (2 or 3) then take a handfull of peas and toss'em out into the kelp, then flyline the hook out on top of them and let it sink natural, if they're around, you should be hooked-up in short order. The Captain of the sportboat I go out on said he see's them picking at the moss on the side of the boat when its ankor'd in the harbor. Lastly, bring a couple of hand towls to lay over the fence where you rest your rod, to protect it, Good luck!...mutt.
