I heard this story on KFI on my way home tonight.

http://hermosabeach.patch.com/articles/divers-continue-search-for-pier-jumper

2 people jumped off the pier and only 1 made it to shore.

I never understood why people do such things... When I was a kid, I once seen a guy and his friend jump off the IB pier at night... His friend made it to shore but I guess he got tired and somebody heard him calling out from under the pier while he was holding on a piling full of mussels. Luckily somebody was crabbing and they dragged his butt to shore with the hoop net. His friend met up half way to help.

There was also another incident where a girl was with a group of guys and she jumped off the pier onto the hard sand below. I'm assuming she broke her legs. The guys just walked up to her and then left her..

They were all over the place in the morning yesterday looking. Divers, boats and helicopters. Here is a pic I took of one of the copters searching along the big breakwall.

Hmm an older Sikorsky model chopper? Didn't know they still used em, cool. BTW the article mentions that the police are hoping he made it out and just decided to crash somewhere else for the night.

I think both of the individuals and or families should be billed for the cost of looking for them.

They did not have to jump and make so many people look for them.

Some rescue staff like divers took risk with their own lives to save these idiots.
