Hello Everyone, I've been fishing for a while and I have been using a spinning reel. Recently I bought a bait casting rod. Now I need a reel. Do any of you have a good reel in mind? For saltwater fishing.

In general: an Abu Ambassadeur 6500 C3 for 12-15# mono or 30-50# braid

If you have a heavier rod, a Penn Jigmaster 500L for 20-30# test or 65# to 80# braid.

The abu is an awesome reel for bay/shore/boat. The nice thing about the 6500c3 is that it has a clicker for bait fishing but is still palmable for lure casting.

I like calcutta 400's...they are great reels for bait or fishing plastic slow. The retrieve is not very fast though. For low profile, gotta say i love the abu revo toro....thing casts great and it rarely backlashes. Both are in the 150-200 range unless you pick up a nice used one.

My fishing buddy just picked up a new c4 last week and having casted it a few times its a great little reel that should be able to handle most pier species outside of maybe large rays and sharks and even then with the right drag ya never know. If you want a slightly larger reel maybe penn gti levelwind or if levelwind isn't your thing get the jigmaster... or spend a little more and get a daiwa sealine or even the new okuma solterras look pretty awesome for the money IMO

C3 is great for live bait drifting, plugging or light rock cod. I wouldn't go over 4-5oz on that reel. I use my Calcutta for anything over 4-5oz (mainly rock codding).
