spent the Christmas holiday overseas with friends and family.
while me and my wife were there, we took advantage of the huge fish markets to provide new gyotaku prints that would be difficult to find here in the states~

below are three (out of a dozen) that i've slowly been completing since returning home! enjoy! =) i'll show you fellas the other prints as soon as i finish them too.

Wow, I can't help but be amazed at how great these prints come out! I would think making these prints would be a great alternative to taxidermy. Way more beautiful and a lot less creepy.

I agree! Funny I was just thinking that...I much rather prefer having one of this artful prints.

Great prints Dowaito!

yeah, it started out with me printing fish that me and my wife would catch.

it's gonna feel great when we finally get that shovelnose and then post up the result of our collective effort~ =)

Nice work! Makes me want to try and print my own. Too bad I haven't been catching any fish lately.

Your work is amazing!! Have you ever printed a live fish and returned it unharmed?

these are so rad.. think you could print a giant 7-gill? id think shark skin wouldnt look as cool as scales, when printed, tho..

thanks for the compliments!

printing a live fish isn't possible mainly for three reasons;
1. if the fish makes one sudden move, thats the end of the print.
2. more importantly, the slime on the fish will prevent any of the detail to be picked up.
3. the surface of the fish needs to be reasonably dry before applying the ink, otherwise you'll end up with a messy black blob on paper~

with all that said, if you want to do a print, it's better to bring home a dead fish, print it, wash off the ink and toss it onto the frying pan~
OR, take the time to shoot a handful of really good photos before releasing. =)

as for a shark, i don't see why one couldn't print one!
i'd have to agree with ya about scales looking better than shark skin, but i'm pretty sure a shark print would work!
