Looking at this reel and thinking about purchasing one mainly because it has 24lbs of drag in such a little reel. Most of my bigger reels have like 15lbs and was wondering if i could catch bigger fish on this little reel than my bigger ones or if the insides are not built for big fish and the drag was built like this to lock down on largemouths to pull them out of cover. Thanks for your help.

The drags are very inconstient out of the box. most Revos only test at 14-18lb drags despite being advertised to have much higher drag systems.

Beware of corrosion issues in saltwater. There are two bearings on either side of the wormdrive. I've had to breakdown the reel often and make sure they don't freeze up. You might want to look at the Inshore model for saltwater use.

and you should always look around for bearings if youre gonna use it in the salt(heck, some salt reels could use the upgrade) theres alotta places to get some damn fine bearings thatll keep all the salt & corrosion out of em.

i also heard if you pack bearings with White Lithium Grease theyre waterproof.. but dunno about for a reel.

i have a revo sx and i use it almost exclusively in salt water. there are some issues with corrosion because of the type of bearings they use. i have upgraded my spool bearing to boca bearing orange seals which are a ceramic hybrid and they tend to resist the adverse effects of saltwater corrosion better than most bearings. but that does not include the rest of the 9 bearing in the reel. but they do cast a country mile and when kept up will stop the hardest charging striper or salmon. sturgeon might give you a run for your money but they just dont have the line capacity for them. the drags are in my opinion fine out of the box but after a year of hard use it is time to upgrade them to carbontex washers. i also have a revo winch which i use specifically for bucktails and that has been used for about a year and a half with almost no maintenance and the insides show no corrosion but they do come with double shielded bearings while the sx do not. but these too ive upgraded to abec 7 ceramic hybrid bearings. make sure after the end of each trip you button down the drags and run the reel under gentle running hot water to corrode any salt on the outside of the reels. it will help later with the maintenance. i hope this helps. good luck with choosing your reel bro.

I have the inshore it is a great reel, comparable to a curado. My curado casts light lures better, but I love the power that this reels has. I mate mine with a clarus mh salmon rod or a mh flippin stick.

I had alan tani go thru mine and remove the bearing sheilds.
