Central Coast Rock Fishing

It was Mother's Day, but I promised to be home by noon - and I was! Low tide was 10:30 at a minus .03, so my plan was to fish some shallow spots where you have to bring waders to climb out a bit to get to a little deeper water.
This spot is too shallow at high tide. The fish don't come in close enough, so you wait until low tide to get out as far as you can on the rocks to get to the deeper water where the fish are. One problem, with the tide going out, the rocks are really wet. Had to go slowly and carefully - an old walking stick for an old man helps. The picture below shows the rocks after the tide has gone out. A good place to fish from.
Now to get to the point. I was able to pull four fish out - one cabezon, one black and yellow rocky, and two grass rockfish from 13" to 15". The cab was skinny, but the rockies were fat. All fish were caught on frozen smelt. No bites on squid. The rockfish were caught casting far out with a single hook leader. The cab was caught in close on a sliding sinker rig.
I got the fish I wanted and in time to make it home by noon. The last picture, you can see the water coming back in. This spot is only fishable for a short time. Just shows that if you don't catch something in a spot, maybe it is just at the wrong tide and you should try it again at another time and another tide. Sometimes, opposite tides can be really different at the same spots.
Another beautiful day on the Central Coast.
