halibut fishing

i am going to check out the shores of manhattan beach and dockweiler for halibut later this week. here was my plan... let me know what you think, tips are always appreciated (never fished halibut before)

my plan was to hit the pier at daybreak with a sabiki rig in hopes of catching some live bait (sardines??) then move north towards el porto/dockweiler and use the live bait for halibut. ive heard that a carolina rig (1 oz sinker) is pretty effective for halibut?

i could use all the help i could get, thanks in advance
