    Another dark side story.

Sounds like a dream trip by today's standards.

    The dark side...

When I first got into this pier fishing thing, I was excluding boat trips from my record-keeping ("the dark side") because of the fundamental differences. I felt like boat fishing was "too easy mode" because the skipper takes you to their spots. But eventually I just added another data field to...

Sardines are my favorite common fish to catch. They're very versatile as food.

    What's the rationale

Sorry to hear it... Some people just ignore any etiquette/manners... A funny thought occurred to me, though - they say "90% of the fish are in 10% of the water". You were probably fishin' in the 10%. :D

    Herring spots near San Mateo?

I might be up in San Mateo in January, and I was wondering if there's been any herring spawn action around there in recent years. I'm just wondering about general tips where I might have some luck. If you have a personal fave secret spot, I respect your right to not share it.

    Dec 4 2023 - Balboa Pier

If I couldn't catch a trophy, I would still be happy with a wide open sardine bite. I really like 'em grilled or broiled with a little salt and hot sauce, lemon juice, or mustard. Trader Joe's recently was selling a cloth grocery bag with canned sardines art and a recipe for "sardine salad"...

Looks legal to me. Any good cat litter scoop will work.
