Snookie's styrofoam idea would work great. But I have been using cheap kitchen sponges for a long time. You just wrap the sabiki around the sponge and embed the hooks in it as you go. It only takes a minute to setup the next time you use it. Very handy.
I am so sorry, Frood
We lost my dad in 2021 to a terminal illness. I wish you to have good friends and loving family around you to help you get through this difficult time.
It's looking like rain for SO CAL on 3/10 through 3/13. But I might be able to make it down to the wharf for some fishing if the weather permits.
... I just realized you're coming next week. Nevermind this week's forecast :p
I fished Goleta Pier on 1/20 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The major action was a big school of jack mackerel, of which I caught a few on sabiki, and a keeper rock crab in my net. There were a dozen pelicans diving for the jack macks, which was cool to see in winter.
Projects around the house pretty much made 2024 a fishless year. I went fishing 10 times for a total of 11 hours and 10 fish. :ROFLMAO: Hoping for more and better fishing in 2025!
At some point, the following web site should start blowing up with reports. The owner does a herring spawn blog every winter.
